I am calling from a Consultancy and I will do anything to mess up with your job search.

When you are out for a job search you tend to encounter with many direct and in direct recruiters and in between them are these advantage takers. They mentally exploit the candidates with huge commitments and try to attract them in the name of the brand they claim to represent. While some of these recruitment firms are established in a 600 sq. ft. apartments, some are well established firms. But they all work with similar mindsets to gather as much as possible resumes and sell it to their clients in exchange of one time database access fees to subscription based plans. Recruiters trying hard to find the right resource to fill in their requirements fall prey to their plans. On the contrary a desperate job seeker too end up paying fees to connect with the right recruiters. Towards the end neither the recruiters needs are met nor the candidates expectations. Consultancies end up being a profitable entities here. The next time you listen to these sentences do have a thought on it:

1. I will try to fit you in
The moment a consultancy called you and tells you this line. Just back off because you know your skill sets well. It may be a case that with the help of consultants you are able to secure the job but what about the aftermath when your skill sets are put to test on ground. You embarrassment would end up quitting the job. By the time the consultants would have taken the commission form the recruitment firm.

2.I will fabricate your profile in no time
People believe that candidates fake their profiles but this is half truth. Some consultants encourage candidates to fake their profiles in order to get a higher commission rates for seasoned professionals working on niche technological skill sets.

3.Do you have an alternate email ID ?
Never share your alternate email Id with these consultants because by doing so you would loose your final chance to connect with the right recruiter. Most of the resumes uploaded on Taleo, Success factor or Workday are never flushed for years. In that case you will never ever be able to reach the recruiter of your choice.

4.I will upload your profile for both the open positions
Never agree to this. Most of the positions are filled against profiles that matches with 70-80 of the job descriptions. These consultancies do not even have that right amount of job descriptions with them. In this case if they apply your profile for both the position there is fair chance of profile duplication and you would be immediately eliminated out of the recruitment cycle.

5.I do not have brief job description
You have time for calling candidates, scheduling interview, taking commissions, writing emails and do not have brief job description. This sounds very fishy and gives me an instinct that you are in the process of collecting updated resumes to build a healthy profiles database which you can further sell to your clients.

6.Would you like to purchase our Recruitment Expert Service ?
Why shall I purchase your service when I have Internet with me. I have the right intellect to reach out to the recruiter through various social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter than why shall I purchase your dumb Recruitment Expert Service who do not even understand the requirements well. This is just to make you shell extra bucks which contributes to their revenue growth.

7.Would you like to subscribe to our Profile builder service ?
Why my profile needs someone else thought on how to put forward my experience to the world. I am the best person to judge my experience and this is what originality and creativity is all about.

8.Will you be working on our payroll at client locations ?
No dear, I do not want to be discriminated by working on your payrolls at client locations. The client facilities wont apply there and you end up making money on my candidature. Please stay away from these opportunities unless you are in acute need of it.

9.Can you come down for a interview tomorrow ?
Why ? Is it your father getting married tomorrow? How can you even ask this unprofessional question? Availability is usually assessed during a recruiting cycle but without even confirming with the client you should not ask this question to the candidate. Later on after the candidate has planned for it you would send an appointment reschedule email. Good for you.

10.Where is my commission ?
This is the gist of all these monkey business. This is all for which these consultants try so hard. Every seasoned professional earns them a hefty annual pay check. Be aware about it. Do not put your skills portfolio to the wrong hands.

It is worth noticing that advantage takers are present everywhere do not fall prey to them instead deal with the situation intellectually. Do not entertain them.
