Does overloaded work culture exists ? Well the answer lies within our managerial capabilities and risk mitigation methods. We have so many personal and professional priorities in our day to day activities and sadly most of the times we tend to overlap these priorities which makes us think that we have been loaded with over work. However, in some cases the overloaded work culture actually exists which kills the employee mentally by isolating him from socializing. As humans socializing is an important activity and whenever he is unable to take out that time from his available bandwidth he blames the work culture to be overloaded. But few things worth considering is, there is a way we could mitigate the risk of overloaded work culture.
1. NEGOTIATE
When it comes to negotiate always learn to say ‘NO’ in a subtle way. There are many ways in which this could be expressed. This not only take you out form the risk of being overburden with work but also enhances your people management and negotiation skills. one thing that needs to be given a strict consideration here is, all negotiation should happen on papers and nothing verbal.
2. DELEGATE
Not every one in your team is as busy as you. Try identifying those team members and investigate their bandwidth availability. When the right time comes highlight these ‘happy go lucky’ team members to your manager so that the workload is equally allocated and balanced amongst you all. Be very polite while delegating activities as you are bound to be a negative force in the eyes of your team members.
3. PLAN and ORGANIZE
After NEGOTIATION and DELEGATION create a plan for your remaining work. Prioritize your work items according to their severity which will help you chase up to the right person at the right time. Keep short breaks within your plans which will give you substantial time for refreshments. This is absolutely necessary for effective engagement and successful outcomes.
4. ELIMINATE
When it comes to managing your work try to analyze In scope and Out of Scope items. Not everything assigned to you are of equal importance. Eliminate those items form your plan and adopt a risk based elimination strategy. The items with high business values should never be eliminated compared to items with low business values or redundant items.
5. CONTROL
Have a strong control on your plan. Do a scope intact planning with minimal scope for change. This would keep you aligned to complete your work within the allocated time limits. Never loose this control else you would end up messing with things and create unnecessary panic for yourself.
One more tip is to have a strong hold over your emotions. Never compare yourself with others, Emotions can sometimes make us weak. Be strong with it. Work with a positive attitude towards managing your work. These five steps would also improve your managerial abilities.
